A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall.

The shock is called defibrillation.

If someone has suffered cardiac arrest, it is essential you call 999, start CPR and locate a defibrillator in the locality.

Warrenpoint Town Centre is now equipped with a number of defibrillators – it is important to read this article, bookmark it and read over it regularly to familiarise yourself with the location of these devices. The panic that may ensue if someone is in distress as a result of a heart condition is understandable so it is prudent to be prepared.

This defibrillator was put in place due to the honourable efforts of Niall Quinn’s wife, family and friends to raise money to acquire the device and raise awareness of heart conditions, prevention and emergency treatment. Niall passed away as a result of a heart condition. His family wanted to do something to help others who may find themselves in need. This is a really fitting tribute in Niall’s memory.
